Metrology is the science of measurement. It covers all theoretical and practical aspects of measurements, whatever the fields and applications. In the modern society, every aspect of our life will inevitably involve metrology. For example, our mobile phones are full of sensors to measure acceleration, rotational speed, light, sound and even altitude and magnetic field. Your smart watch can measure your heart rate and blood oxygen level besides telling you the time. You purchase food from the supermarket and numerous tests have been conducted on them by analysts behind the scene. Also, in time of pandemics, metrology has come to our defense. In this symposium, we have selected several interesting topics around our daily life to share how metrology plays its role. Taking this opportunity, the recent development in the transformation of the International System of Units (SI) to the digital world led by the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) will also be reported in this symposium.

Please complete the registration at on or before 21 May 2021 (Friday). Confirmation will be notified by email after the registration. As there is a limitation on the maximum number of participants in the online platform, we reserve the right to accept all, part or decline the registrations.

Research Matching Grant Scheme

In order to diversify and strengthen the financial support for research and development (R&D) in Hong Kong by joining hands with the private sector, the University Grants Committee of the HKSAR Government has launched a Research Matching Grant Scheme and set aside a total of HK$3 billion for application by local degree-awarding institutions in three years (i.e. 1 August 2019 – 31 July 2022).

We, the Institute for Research in Innovative Technology & Sustainability (IRITS) seeks to further improve our research infrastructure and allocate more resources to strengthen our research capacity to foster research and academic collaboration with other institutions and organizations in the future. Your support is essential to help IRITS reap double benefits to advance its research capabilities through the Research Matching Grant Scheme. Your timely gift would ensure that we can multiply the impact of your benevolence. For more details, please click here.
