Geographic, or other spatial information, is crucial to many applications in engineering, planning, management, transport/logistics, insurance, telecommunications and business.
A geographic information system (GIS) is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data.
With the ubiquity of the internet and
telecommuncation devices, more powerful GIS applications are available
nowadays, allowing users to create interactive queries, analyze spatial information, edit data on maps, visualize data and findings and present the results of all these operations anywhere and any time. Many researchers and government agencies around the world have used GIS to solve problems in environmental research and management.
This talk will showcase the use of a GIS platform in managing and performing research on the earth’s natural resources.
